The trouble with Word templates
Free Word templates are easy to find, and that is where most families start. The problems show up after you send it:
- The layout moves. Text boxes, borders and photos shift when the file opens on a different phone or a different version of Word. A neat page can arrive as two untidy ones.
- Devanagari breaks. If the other family’s phone lacks the font, Hindi or Marathi letters split apart or show as boxes.
- Anyone can edit it. A Word file can be changed, by accident or not, before it is forwarded again.
- Copies stay on phones. Once a Word file or PDF is forwarded, you cannot take it back. A SevenVows link can be deleted when you no longer want it seen.
What a good biodata PDF looks like
- One A4 page, with a clear photo at the top.
- Sections in the order elders read them: personal, horoscope and community, education and work, family, contact.
- Readable text, not tiny fonts squeezed in to fit.
- A file name with the person’s name, such as “Meera Nair biodata.pdf”, so it is easy to find later.
